Applicability of GST registration

Generally, the liability to register under GST arises when aggregate turnover in the financial year exceeds exemption threshold of 20 lakh (10 lakh for some states).

For following persons making taxable supplies, turnover limit of 20 lakh is not applicable, they will be compulsorily required to register and pay tax under GST.

  • Inter-state supplier of goods
  • A person receiving supplies on which tax is payable by recipient on reverse charge basis
  • Casual taxable person who is not having fixed place of business in the State or Union Territory from where he wants to make supply
  • Non-resident taxable persons who are not having fixed place of business in India
  • A person who supplies on behalf of some other taxable person (i.e. an Agent of some Principal)
  • E-commerce operators
  • Suppliers who supply through an e-commerce operator
  • Those ecommerce operators who are notified as liable for GST payment under Section 9(5)
  • TDS Deductor
  • Those supplying online information and data base access or retrieval services from outside India to a non-registered person in India.
  • Input Service Distributor

Documents required for Proprietary concern

  • Photograph of Proprietor
  • PAN of the proprietor
  • Identity and Address proof of the Proprietor
  • Proof of Principal/Additional place of business
    • For own premises – Latest Property tax receipt or Electricity Bill or Water Bill
    • For Renter or leased premises – Copy of Rent/ Lease agreement and latest property tax receipt or electricity bill or water bill
  • Bank account proof – Scanned Copy if first page of pass book or one page of bank pass book or Cancelled cheque containing the account no, Name of the proprietor, MICR and IFSC and branch details.

Documents required for partnership firm

  • Photograph of all partners
  • Personal details of all partners
  • Identity and address proof of partners
  • Partnership deed
  • Proof of Principal/Additional place of business
    • For own premises – Latest Property tax receipt or Electricity Bill or Water Bill
    • For Renter or leased premises – Copy of Rent/ Lease agreement and latest property tax receipt or electricity bill or water bill
  • Bank account proof – Scanned Copy if first page of pass book or one page of bank pass book or Cancelled cheque containing the account no, Name of the business entity, MICR and IFSC and branch details.
  • Authorization form to act as authorized signatory

Documents required for a Company

  • Photograph of Managing Director or Authorized Person
  • Certificate of Incorporation
  • Board Resolution
  • Proof of Principal/Additional place of business
    • For own premises – Latest Property tax receipt or Electricity Bill or Water Bill
    • For Renter or leased premises – Copy of Rent/ Lease agreement and latest property tax receipt or electricity bill or water bill
  • Bank account proof – Scanned Copy if first page of pass book or one page of bank pass book or Cancelled cheque containing the account no, Name of the business entity, MICR and IFSC and branch details
  • Authorization form to act as authorized signatory
